Hand Stripping Courses
Hand Stripping – Terrier Breeds – To include preparing to show where required.
Our courses are designed to meet individual needs and requirements and unlike other courses offered, this is ONE to ONE tuition.
To give you an idea of what students have asked for in the past:
Total Beginner Course – we can design a course that will start you on the road to handstripping and preparing your terrier for the show ring. This course will include:
- Equipment to use (a kit of the equipment recommended can be provided for you on arrival which you can be used during your training ensuring you have the experience of using your tools under supervision – kit prices on application but typically will be in the region of £50 -£200)
- Brushing, General Coat Care, Basic Health Checks, Nail Clipping
- Handstripping – Initial Roughing out of Coat demonstration using finger and thumb
- Step by step practical to learn finger and thumb stripping
- Use of thinning and straight scissors
- Shaping the coat
- Finishing the coat
- Rolling the coat
- Preparation of the coat for the show ring
- Basic Handling training at a local Ringcraft session (on a Wednesday)
- Show Equipment
- Depending on the date of the course we are happy to incorporate a visit with us to a Championship Show where you can assist with preparation of our own dogs for the showring.
Advanced Course – again your course will be designed for you and you are encouraged to bring your own equipment with you. The course could include:
- All of the beginners course plus
- Advanced handstripping techniques
- Head trimming/shaping
Advanced preparation for the show ring - Handling techniques including stacking/movement
Grooming – as well as preparing dogs for the show ring we run a busy grooming salon. A course could include:
- Stripping the coat using a Duplex Knife
- Shaping and blending
- Head trimming
- Feet and Nail care
- Ear care
- Bathing and Drying and when this is appropriate
- Skin care
Should a student have their own dog(s) which they wish to have first hand experience of handling whilst undertaking any type of grooming, then we will be pleased to arrange for you to bring them along. Handstripping can only be demonstrated on your own dog if the coat allows
Your course fee on all courses will include:
- All training provided including course notes
- Coffee/Tea
- Transport to Ringcraft training
- Transport to Ch.Show if available
You may purchase in addition:
- Grooming kit to include: Straight scissors, thinning scissors, Stripping Knife, Brush, Show Preparation products, Grooming jacket (please state S,M,L when booking) – price dependent on suppliers but typically around £200-£300
- DVD of Grooming by Sue Thomson
COSTS:
Our courses are costed as follows:
Half Day Tuition to include coffee/tea £100
Full Day Tuition to include coffee/tea. £175 – please bring a packed lunch
Why not incorporate a couple of days sightseeing in the area while you are with us. Bed and Breakfast is available in the local area and we are happy to give you details.
